Spyware and Adware are very serious problems affecting nearly all computers today. Read below how myTouch interacts with the top Spyware and Adware tools and how myTouch assures that your data is safe.
Unfortunately, Spyware and Adware are known evils and constant companions of Internet users. The chances that your computer will be attacked or infested by Spyware and/or Adware are great and unless you have taken steps to protect your Windows computer, your computer is probably already gathering and reporting sensitive data to unauthorized services.
The myTouch deskbar contains advertising without unwanted pop-ups and myTouch guarantees that myTouch does not contain Spyware or downloads Spyware at a later time.
The myTouch deskbar communicates with our servers and only includes data that is built-in or that you provide.
Firewalls, anti-virus and anti-spyware are very aggressive in protecting your computer and you will find myTouch is treated no different than any other program.
Since myTouch is open and honest, not trying to be nuisance, hide or spy, it is discovered in every instance and by every anti-spyware program we tested. As such, it is in great company, as every program is scrutinized the same as can be seen in the the screenshots to the right.
Some common characteristics are perceived as threats, regardless who the software publisher is. This is even true for components of the operating system itself such as print spoolers and network software. In our case, there are five characteristics that stand out in testing.
1. myTouch wants to access the Internet. Fair enough. If a user is using software on his/her computer (e.g. firewall) that prevents unauthorized access of the Internet, a warning will be issued and access will be blocked until such access is ...authorized. Our digital certificate will identify us and myTouch. It seems reasonable to assume that, if you download the myTouch Deskbar - an Internet tool - you will also want authorize its access of the Internet when prompted.
2. myTouch is trying to create a process. This refers to myTouch “running in the background” without the user explicitly starting the program. Just like the Windows Quick Launch toolbar, myTouch runs, even after restart, until it is turned off. Again, the user will be prompted to Allow or Deny. You should allow the deskbar to run.
3. myTouch can create unwanted popups. Yes it can, it doesn’t, but it may in the future. Still, we guarantee that we do not include, or enable, unwanted or unexpected popups. When used with an RSS news feed, a popup alerts the user that an update is available. We have opted to not use this feature in the current myTouch version to avoid the popup issue altogether. However, the we continue to listen to our customers and hence, we may turn this feature on in the future for those who want it.
4. myTouch can download programs. myTouch has the ability to download itself and update its content via the Internet. We considered the ability for automatic updates carefully. We believe that users should always decide what programs are installed on their computers and you will be prompted before an update is installed. Since the content, such as menu item text, is dynamic so it can be updated, it has to be remote. Most anti-spyware/adware software will simply report that myTouch is attempting to access the Internet. Again, this needs to be allowed.
5. myTouch can redirect your clicks. myTouch redirects your clicks. Just a few years ago Wikipedia did not exist and a menu choice “Reference” would have pointed to anything but Wikipedia. Popular demand may cause us to offer a “reference source” that does not yet exist.

You have questions?

What is Spyware? What is Adware?
Adware is a form of client-side ad-serving software that delivers advertising to consumers, mostly via pop-up windows. Spyware is software that aids an unauthorized third party in gathering information about a user without his or her knowledge and consent.
